By the time his condition was correctly identified, the poor fellow's sheath was a mass of open wounds. We have successfully treated him with daily applications of invectrin creame; and have used the sheath every day also. The sheath completely protected him from other fly infections during the long period that he had open wounds. He exhibited no issues with wearing the sheath.  "This shield is so amazing! It goes on easily and didn't bother the horse at all. I bought this for my friend 's horse and I really think he knew we were trying to help him. We were praying he would keep it on. His sheath was bloody and oozing. The flies just wouldn't leave it alone and he couldn't leave the flies alone. He either kicked at them or tried to bite them on his sheath. It never healed no matter what we put on it, including lots of fly spray on top of everything. The vet came to treat him and we put the shield on. She even took a picture and said it was the best one she had ever seen. We left it on 2 days (I know it's supposed to come off every day and be cleaned) before we took it off for the first time. It was almost healed.
